This was one of my toughest cakes yet, but the one I'm probably most proud of. It's a two-tier, double layer cake. The bottom is a 10" double layer chocolate cake with a buttercream filling, and the top is a 6" double layer yellow cake with a buttercream frosting. The design idea came from a cake that was originally requested, but was totally done in fondant which I haven't tried using yet, so I did what I could with buttercream to make it work. The lattice work and the cross on top were probably the most difficult parts, but I think the finished product looks great!
The bottom tier when it was almost done.
Before the lattice work was added to the top tier.
And a couple different angles of the finished product.
Nate had a karate tournament the other day and they were looking for donations of cakes and dishes that could be used as food during the tournament. So I took one of his t-shirts with the logo from his dojo and put that onto the cake. I guess it was a huge hit and the cake was gone in no time. The hardest part here was the Japanese writing, so glad there were only a few characters to do.
A friend asked if I could make a Freddy Krueger birthday cake for her boyfriend. So I searched for a bit on Google and came up with this design. Definitely not easy to trace this one so I had to free hand it. Hope they all enjoyed eating it! (and having their mouths turn black)
A customer I had last month was looking for another cake for her significant other's birthday. She requested a moose wearing a Steelers jersey. This is what I was able to come up with thanks to Google images. It is a 10" round yellow cake with buttercream frosting.
